Gaijin Announce New Open Source Game Engine – EdenSpark

Gaijin Entertainment, the makers of the popular massively multiplayer wargame WarThunder have just announced they are releasing a new open-source game engine called EdenSpark. EdenSpark is built upon Gaijin’s already open sourced game engine Dagor Engine that was used to develop the aforementioned WarThunder and as well as other titles such as Enlisted. In many ways EdenSpark sounds like it will be more of a platform like Roblox or UEFN with one MASSIVE difference, EdenSpark will also enable you to self publish your titles away from their platform making it sound more similar to s&box from Facepunch.

Gaijin Entertainment is proud to unveil EdenSpark, the first open-source platform that lets independent developers make their games accessible to console users hassle-free and truly own the code of their creations. Closed Beta Testing will begin this November, with a full release planned for 2026.

EdenSpark gives individual game creators an easy access to consoles, even without a registered company or costly legal paperwork. Anyone will be able to turn their idea into a game and share it with friends on PC, PlayStation or Xbox. At the same time, unlike closed ecosystems offering similar experience, EdenSpark developers will retain full ownership of their games. This means that creators can keep their projects inside EdenSpark’s community or, if they wish, self-publish independently, taking their work anywhere. This combination of accessibility and freedom is unique: major engines might offer professional flexibility, but they either don’t help you being game to console audience fast and easy or are not available under FOSS, or neither. EdenSpark bridges that gap.

EdenSpark is designed to lower the barriers to game development and ignite the inner creativity of each gamer that ever dreamed of creating their own thing. Experienced programmers can dive deep into code, while complete newcomers can rely on AI-assisted tools to generate art, sound, and gameplay logic, or simply build worlds using plain prompts. It’s even possible to create games using a retail console with a keyboard being the only extra accessory you’ll need. EdenSpark is powered by Gaijin’s Dagor Engine, the proven technology powering blockbuster titles such as War Thunder, Enlisted and Active Matter, ensuring professional-grade performance for projects of any scale.

The journey begins in November 2025, when EdenSpark will enter a closed beta with access to a number of game prototypes and the opportunity to upload personal projects. By summer 2026 the platform will officially launch as version 1.0, with stable APIs and full AI assistant integration, while the fall will bring the release of EdenSpark’s source code for PC along with official support for Xbox and PlayStation.
