Hot on the heels of the October 2025 release which saw Material Maker ported to Godot 4.x, Material Maker 1.5 has just been released. A good part of the 1.5 release involved fixing the various bugs that cropped up after such a major port. That said, user williamchange stepped up and added a lot of new functionality in this release as well. Material Maker is free and open-source, available for Windows, Mac and Linux and as suggested earlier, written entirely using the Godot game engine. It is, simply put, the most capable free alternative to procedural texture generations applications like Substance Designer available today.
Highlights of the Material Maker 1.5 release include:
FBX & DDS Support: Massive for compatibility with industry-standard assets.
EasySDF Editor Updates: 7 new SDF nodes and improved UI for 3D primitive manipulation.
Mesh Map Node: Automated baking of Normals, Curvature, Occlusion, and Thickness directly from custom meshes.
Command Line Interface: It’s back! You can now automate or bulk-export materials.
Workflow Enhancements: Added Lasso selection, node alignment tools, and the “Ctrl+RMB” shortcut to cut connections.
