Xogot – Godot on iPad – Now Free for Students

Back in May, Xogot – Godot running on iPad was released. It is an excellent implementation of the Godot game engine with an iPad friendly user interface enabling game development on the go. On launch however the price was often criticized and that has resulted in two major changes.

First the pricing tiers were altered:

But we’ve also heard loud and clear that our pricing and paywall experience left room for improvement.

Today, we’re announcing several important changes in response to that feedback:

  • free trial option
  • Lower pricing tiers
  • Updates to our lifetime unlock model

Try Before You Buy

The most common request we received – in App Store reviews, support emails, and in the Xogot Discord server – was for a way to try Xogot before buying. We agree.

As of today, new users can try the full power of Xogot free for one week — with nothing charged if you decide to cancel.

Lower Pricing Options

Alongside the free trial, many users told us that our original pricing felt too steep – especially for those who only use Xogot occasionally.

To make Xogot more accessible, we’re introducing two new pricing tiers:

  • yearly subscription priced 40% lower than our original offering
  • A flexible weekly “Pay as You Xogot” plan for casual use or short bursts of creativity (like game jams)

Whether you’re experimenting or going all in, there’s now an option that fits your needs.

Updates to Lifetime Unlock

We also heard confusion around our “pay once, updates for a year” model. To simplify things, we’ve updated our Unlock Xogot option so that it now includes ongoing access to Xogot and all core updates to the Godot engine.

This means you’ll continue to receive bug fixes and improvements — even as new versions of Godot are released — without needing to repurchase.

And as a thank-you to early supporters, we’re grandfathering in everyone who has already unlocked Xogot — you now have lifetime access under this updated model.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has tried, tested, and offered feedback on Xogot. Your input is shaping the future of Xogot, and we’re excited to keep improving it with your help.

In addition to these pricing changes, they have also announced that you can get 1-year subscriptions for free if you are a qualified student, as well as an outreach program for educators that wish to teach using Xogot.

If you’re a student enrolled in a degree or diploma-granting course of study at an accredited college, university, or high school, you can use this form to apply for a free 1-year subscription for personal use.

If you’re an educator teaching (or considering teaching) game development on iPads, or with Godot on the desktop—whether in a formal class or an extracurricular program—we’d love to support you and your students.

Reach out to [email protected] so we can work with you directly—whether it’s help testing your curriculum with Xogot, ensuring project compatibility, or sharing feedback on how we can make the experience better for your students.
