Milanote for Game Design

Milanote is an online tool for organizing, designing and managing projects, which ships with templates specifically aimed at game design. Milanote runs in your browser as well as via a desktop application (Mac and Windows) and Mobile versions available for Android and iOS. There is a free tier available that limits you in the number of documents you can create and upload, but gives you enough to create a simple project and get a proper feel for Milanote in action.

In terms of Game Design, Milanote supports the following features:

Upgrade your game design workflow

Milanote helps you to organize and plan complex video game development projects with ease. From the initial ideation process to production – Milanote is a visual extension of your brain.

Perfect for story outlines

Milanote lets you see your story structure at a glance—just like a wall of post-it notes, but online. Easily drag and drop to rearrange the key parts as your story comes to life.

Make dynamic moodboards

Moodboards are a great way to set the visual direction for your game design project, but they don’t need to be static PDFs any more.

Add images you’ve collected online, from other games, or from the Milanote image browser containing 500k+ built-in images supported by Unsplash.

  • 500k built-in images
  • Simple drag and drop interface
  • Templates to supercharge your process

Bring your characters to life

Use the Milanote character profile template to define the specific traits of your characters and then map the connections between them. You’ll revisit these boards again and again as your game takes shape.

Create storyboards

Map out the visuals, narration and sequence of your cutscenes. Easily re-arrange frames as your story evolves, then share it with your team when you’re ready to move into production.

Plan your game proposal

Organize your proposal in Milanote and never feel unprepared again! When you’re ready, you can invite anyone to view and edit your boards or download a high quality printable PDF.
